Dajour Reece of Cesar Chavez won a State Championship in Division I Wrestling in the 113 lb. weight class, February 11 in Prescott. He won five matches, and topped a Sandra Day O’Connor wrestler 5-3 in the championship match. Reece completes his season with a 40-4 match record.
Five schools qualified for the State Decathlon - South Mountain, Cesar Chavez, Maryvale, Betty Fairfax and Trevor Browne. The five teams will advance to the State Decathlon, March 9-10.
Betty Fairfax football team may have barely missed the playoffs in 2011, but five players received payoffs, when they earned college football scholarships. The five signed letters of intent on National Letter of Intent Signing Day, February 1.
Students will build the Solar Charging Station on the campus in the next two months. The station will charge everything from cell phones and laptops to a diesel/electric hybrid the students are also building.
The school staff and students want to pay tribute to baseball and football coach Jeff Pankenier for his years of dedication and commitment to athletics. The run will start at 9 a.m. from Central High School.
Applications for 2012-2013 ninth-graders are now available.

President Barack Obama has selected Superintendent Dr. Kent P. Scribner to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
